The real meaning of rehabilitation.

Not long ago, I wrote about being beaten by two spring onions.   After falling down the stairs and fracturing yet another vertebra, it was just too painful to stand in the kitchen and chop them.

Good news, just over 12 months after the accident and hospitalisation, this week I managed not only those dreaded onions but carrot, celery, tomatoes, cucumber, red pepper, dates, roasted pumpkin seeds and lettuce for an entire salad!

It probably sounds not much but what progress to be able to do all of that again.

I was feeling slightly smug as I’d also managed a vigorous walk around the local park with physio fitness trainer, Chas who’s been helping me for months.   The medication helps but I’ve managed to more than halve the dose and can even miss it entirely some days.

I reckon all this recovery stuff isn’t about how far you can bend a leg but more about getting back to real life.   Now I’m on track and could take on a whole bunch of those onions: salad days again!
