New machine vs the law?

Just bought a fabulous new washing machine from a very famous German manufacturer. Huge capacity and wonderful washing. But…

Absolutely appalling controls. Very sensitive touch buttons that are so easy to activate inadvertently when brushing past the machine, emptying it or just trying to negotiate my way around it. I’m sure there used to be some sort of equality legislation about making things accessible for blind and other disabled people. Has it been abandoned or do manufacturers simply ignore? On the other hand, perhaps everyone assumes that having an impairment means we never have to wash clothes or we can always afford someone to do it for us?
