If you didn’t hear Money box on Radio 4, here’s a tip:
If someone rings you claiming to be from your bank:
- Don’t give them any information about yourself.
- Tell them you’ll ring them back.
- Hang up and call 159. This is a service by the big banks to handle scammers. They’ll ask for your bank name and then connect you to that bank’s fraud department.
Even if you don’t carry on with the scam fraud, they will try to collect information about you (name, address, bank etc) which adds value to the information they have about you when they sell it on!
Don’t forget to forward suspect scam e-mails to report@phishing.gov.uk
Please share.
